Archival Basics for Librarians

Section/Committee:
The NJLA History & Preservation Section will be presenting a
workshop for new archivists and special collections librarians: Archival Basics for Librarians, scheduled on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. in the Pane Room of Alexander Library at Rutgers University in New Brunswick.

Presented by:
Erika Gorder, Associate University Archivist at Rutgers

Tim Corlis
Head of Preservation, Special Collections/University Archives Staff, Special Collections and University Archives
This workshop will provide an introduction to archival principles, standards, and practices with an emphasis on arrangement, description, and preservation. It is designed with the "non-archivist" in mind, especially librarians in diverse library settings who, by happy accident or formal design, are charged with the care of archival material in their collections. The workshop will use a hybrid approach that will include both lecture and hands-on demonstration with the primary goal of providing a basic grounding in archival management to make the participants more comfortable working with archival materials as well as providing the tools with which they can continue to explore and understand archives.

Cost:
- Student/Retiree/Unemployed/Friend: $10
- NJLA Member: $20
- Non-member: $30

Coffee, tea, and snacks will be served.

Registration is required.
Limited to 20 participants.
