2015 NJLA Annual Conference
Small Libraries Section Sponsored or Cosponsored Programs
If you missed us at NJLA, below are session descriptions, notes and materials.
Title: Successful Library Partnerships - You Can Do It!
Sponsorship: Children's Services, Small Libraries
Program Description: Librarians who have worked in and with school and public libraries will talk about mutually beneficial partnerships. We will open up the discussion so others can share successful experiences and informative mistakes. Together, we'll develop a road map for collaboration that benefits schools and libraries.

Title: Bring the Library Outside Your Building!
Sponsorship: Diversity & Outreach, Small Libraries
Program Description: Want to drive a bookmobile, ride a bike, help veterans, or reach people at the mall? Find out how some libraries have done just that! We'll talk about ways to bring the library to people outside your building (that will – maybe – bring people into the library too). Questions and discussion to follow.

Title: Technology on a Shoe String
Sponsorship: Emerging Technologies, Small Libraries
Program Description: The presentation will discuss and highlight low-cost and effective ways in which libraries can advocate and improve services to their community. Presenters will highlight their areas of expertise, which will include free and affordable strategies, such as open source solutions, crowdfunding, and inexpensive technology approaches. Our presenters’ work has paved the way for successful routes that support library goals without the need for an expensive, proprietary solution, especially when dealing with budget constraints.

Title: Small is Beautiful!
Sponsorship: Small Libraries
Program Description: We’ll explore low-cost, high-impact initiatives small libraries can do because we are so agile and closely linked to our communities. Brief introductory remarks about small libraries will be followed by a few examples. Then we’ll break into small groups (programs, collaboration, events and fundraising) to discuss ideas that have worked. We’ll come back together to share the small group discussions and brainstorm solutions to needs that were identified.
