President of NJLA
This is an elected position.
Term: 1 year as President with following year as immediate Past-President (see separate job description); term runs July 1 - June 30 (or until a successor is elected).
- President is a voting member of the NJLA Executive Board.
- President establishes the dates and locations of all Executive Board meetings.
- President establishes the agenda for all Executive Board meetings.
- NJLA Executive Board holds a minimum of six (6) meetings per year. Additional meetings
- may be called.
- President presides over the Executive Board meetings as well as the General Membership meetings.
- President delivers a report at each Executive Board meeting.
- President appoints Parliamentarian to serve Executive Board and Association.
- President appoints an Archivist to serve the Association.
- President initiates process for addressing absent Executive Board members.
- President serves on the following Executive Board sub-committees:
- Employee Relations
- Finance [Budget]
- Planning
- President also serves as a member of Conference Subcommittee, selecting the conference theme.
- President is responsible for a President’s program at the annual conference.
- President may host a social reception at the conference.
- President selects the President’s Award recipient, which is awarded at awards reception.
- President must submit a written report to the Secretary at the annual meeting.
- President appoints standing committees.
- President appoints one member to Investment Subcommittee.
- President shall be an ex officio member of all sections, round tables, and task forces.
- President attends meetings of Sections, Roundtables, and Committees as necessary and monitors Committees' progress and agendas.
- President may serve as an ex officio member of the State Library Advisory Board, the Board of the NJ Center for the Book and Rutgers SC&I Program Affiliates.
- President represents, promotes and works cooperatively with other library Boards (NJ Association of School Librarians and VALE-NJ)and other organizations in the state.
- President speaks to various library groups and at programs/workshops (State Library New Directors, Emerging Leaders, Leadership Academy).
- President writes a quarterly column for the New Jersey Library NEWSletter.
- President maintains regular communication with the Executive Director.
- President appoints ad hoc committees and task forces as needed
- President shall be authorized to sign checks, as necessary.
All Executive Board positions require the following:
- Must be a member in good standing of NJLA to be elected as an officer of the Association.
- Any Executive Board member who does not attend 3 Executive Board meetings (2, if consecutive) in any year, shall be notified by the president that if the member fails to attend a 4th meeting (3rd, if consecutive), a motion for removal from office may be placed on the agenda of the following meeting. A two-thirds vote of the Executive Board shall be required for such removal.
- At the discretion of the NJLA President, Executive Board members may serve on at least one NJLA Executive Board Committee and/or Task Force. Executive Board members may also be asked to serve as liaisons to NJLA Sections.
