First Vice President/President-Elect
NJLA VICE PRESIDENT/PRESIDENT ELECT
Term: 1 year as First Vice President, followed by 1 year as President (see separate job description) and 1 additional year as immediate Past-President (see separate job description); term runs July 1 - June 30 (or until a successor is elected).
- Voting member of the NJLA Executive Board.
- Attends monthly NJLA Executive Board meetings and NJLA functions including any annual business or membership meetings.
- Serves on the following subcommittees: Employee Relations, Finance, Member Services, Planning (serves as Chair, performs annual review of NJLA Strategic Plan), and Conference.
- Travels to or virtually attends a variety of Section, Roundtable, and Committee meetings (beyond those required/listed above) as a way of becoming familiar with the Association’s leadership, membership, and business needs. It is recommended that the First Vice President attends at least one meeting of each group during the course of the year.
- Appoints Vice Chairs for Member Services, Professional Development, Public Policy, and Public Relations. [Appoints Vice Chairs for each standing Committee.]
- Delivers an installation speech, outlining their Presidential platform, at the annual spring conference during the Leadership Luncheon.
- Should the President be unable to serve out their term, the First Vice President assumes the Presidency and completes that unfinished term, as well as the following year (the year for which the First Vice President was elected to serve as President).

All Executive Board positions require the following:
- Must be a member in good standing of NJLA to be elected as an officer of the Association.
- Any Executive Board member who does not attend 3 Executive Board meetings (2, if consecutive) in any year, shall be notified by the president that if the member fails to attend a 4th meeting (3rd, if consecutive), a motion for removal from office may be placed on the agenda of the following meeting. A two-thirds vote of the Executive Board shall be required for such removal.
- At the discretion of the NJLA President, Executive Board members may serve on at least one NJLA Executive Board Committee and/or Task Force. Executive Board members may also be asked to serve as liaisons to NJLA Sections.
